On Saturday we decided to make a trip to an apple orchard. It's early in the season, but we were looking for something fun to do as a family that did not involve the words "state" or "fair" in them (we aren't big state fair people and figured that Eddie was too young to really enjoy it this year). We went to an
orchard that was pretty close to the city, but neither one of us had ever been to before. I think later in the season they have more things going on, but it was fine for Eddie at this age. We had fun walking around, looking at all things apple related, shared an apple brat and had a couple of apple cider donuts. I could have eaten a dozen of those donuts! The weather was absolutely perfect to spend the time outside.

Eddie tried picking apples - if you look closely at his hand, you'll see he hasn't quite figured it out just yet. |

Saturday evening and Sunday morning I used the apples that we purchased to make apple turnovers. I made the dough and prepped the apples on Saturday evening. Then Sunday morning I rolled out the dough and assembled them. They turned out great, although surprisingly, we liked them cooler versus hot out of the oven. The apples seemed to have more flavor when cooled.
On Sunday we decided to take a family walk around Lake Harriet. It was another beautiful day and Sammy really enjoyed seeing all the other dogs and people. The rest of the weekend we primarily spent around the house relaxing. Sammy seems to have that part down:

Those turnovers are a lot like the Jiffy banana muffins I had!
