Hanging Around

For the past couple of weeks, I have been staying pretty close to home.  Last week was primarily because I was still fighting a cold.  But it's also because I have been working on getting Eddie into a routine.  Please note that this is much different than a schedule, because everyone knows that with a baby, a schedule is next to impossible.  But a routine is much easier and makes life a little, well . . . maybe slightly easier!

Probably the biggest change is that Eddie now naps in his crib all the time and we don't completely swaddle him anymore.  We just swaddle his legs - he is now free to move his arms about.  And I have been working on a routine when putting him down to make it go smoother and quicker.  Part of this routine music from a snow globe (which we have learned to NOT over wind or else you could stand there rocking him forever!), rocking him while the music is on and then once that stops, we give him his Winnie the Pooh Lovey for him to hold and cuddle while in the crib.  When we make sure catch him just as he is getting sleepy, he goes down great.

It's been a work in progress, but overall I am pleased with how painless this has been.  He naps quite a bit still during the day.  All this sleep does seem to be doing him well.  He has been such a happy boy when he is awake and usually I find him in his crib awake from his nap on his side, chewing on his hands - all smiles!  And since I am not holding him for his naps, I feel like I can get stuff done around the house.

In other news, we finally got a nice rug for our living room.  I love having a big rug because it makes playing with Eddie on the floor so much easier!  Sammy also likes the new rug (see below).  We took away his "step" (old couch pillow) that he used to hop up on the couch.  He can get more traction with the rug now, so it's totally unnecessary (but funny enough, when we had company, he didn't need that pillow - he would hop up on the couch just fine!)

Friends!

Last night we got together with Eddie's friend Ashley (and her parents too).  It's so much fun to see them together.  And they are now starting to notice each other.  They like to do a lot of the same things.

Like stand

Or suck on their hands
Whenever we take the two of them out together, people always comment on how cute they are and want to know if they are related.  We tell them no, but they are three days apart!

Happy Birthday to Me!

Saturday was my 33rd birthday!  Unfortunately I was still sick (and still am) with this dang cold!  But I still enjoyed my day.  I scheduled my massage and pedicure that I received as my Mother's Day gift for that morning.  Never had a massage felt so good!   Uncas, Eddie and Sammy gave me yellow roses, a new baking pan (for banana bread or meat loaf) that has a cover and can go in the freezer/microwave/oven.  He also bought me a book I had been wanting for a while.  And in the morning they went out and got me birthday donuts.  And of course what birthday is complete without cake?

For the record - it's chocolate cake
My best friend Lisa sent me a fabulous brownie pan:
We didn't do much else during the day because I felt so lousy, but it was a great birthday.  I was able to relax and spend it with my favorite guys!

3 Months

Wow - I can hardly believe Eddie is 3 months old today. I guess that officially means he is no longer a newborn! I was looking through pictures from the day he was born last night. It's so amazing that just 90 some days ago he was so tiny. I thought I would always remember him being so small, but its difficult because of all the rapid changes. Fortunately I like to take lots of pictures! Here are some observations from the past month:
  • With all of our challenges and struggles that we have had with nursing, you are now a champ at it.  So much so that you have stopped taking a bottle!  We are working to fix this because while I love spending time with you, I also enjoy my breaks too!
  • Speaking of nursing - we have discovered that diary that I consume does not agree with you.  This means that I have had to cut out cheese and ice cream from my diet.  It's really hard.  I also think peanut butter is a problem as well.  This is yet another reason why getting you to take a bottle is really important.
  • You have discovered your hands and they sure must be tasty! You love putting them in your month, and sucking on them. In the past day, you have just discovered your feet! You are intrigued by them, or it could be your socks that you are looking at.
  • You still love playing with your toys in the Pack N Play. We have also been reading to you more. We can usually make it through 1 or 2 books before you get bored.
  • In the past month you have traveled to Wisconsin twice and to Lake Mille Lac once. When you are away from home, you sleep great in the Pack N Play. You also sleep well in your car seat. We are learning to adjust to traveling with a baby, but overall, it's gone very smoothly.
  • You love to smile and laugh - especially for your mama and your daddy. And we love to make you laugh and smile. You also like to smile at the baby in the mirror (you!)
  • Behind your dresser is like a big black hole.  When we change your diaper, you like to throw things.  Currently there are two nuks and two washcloths back there.
  •
This morning I was able to take his monthly picture.  He was in a great mood and right when we finished, he spit up!

    Fishing Tournament 2010

This weekend was the annual fishing tournament at Lake Mille Lacs.  This is Uncas's third year fishing with his partner Matt.  They were hoping Eddie would be some good luck, but unfortunately it just wasn't their year.  The fish were biting and the rain held off for most of the day.  Eddie enjoyed his weekend and met lots of new friends.  Unfortunately both Uncas and I were sick.  He was on the tail end of it, but of course I am feeling the worst right now.  So instead of writing anymore, I just going to put a bunch of pictures up and call it a night!

    Eddie's Baptism

Sometimes the best laid plans completely fall apart.  When that happens you can either freak out and get upset or you can just roll with what you have been handed.  That is exactly what happened this past week/weekend.  I should start off by saying that we really had a fabulous weekend.  Eddie was baptized at my parent's church on Saturday evening.  Lisa, Brian and Caiden made it to Minneapolis safely on Thursday evening.  We were surrounded the whole weekend with good friends and family.  BUT when I pictured how the weekend would go, things were slightly different in my head.  Here are just a few bullet points:

    • Last week my mom fell at work, bumped her head, and sprained her ankle.  Perfect timing when she was going to have a house full of people in 3 days.
    • My grandma went into the hospital on Friday evening.
    • Eddie had a really rough week with gas, and it sort of messed up his sleep schedule.  I was worried to travel with him.
    • Probably not the greatest idea to take your child to church or have him baptized during his fussiest part of the day.  It makes for him crying all service long!
    • Nothing like planning a BBQ for after church only to have it rain.
In spite of everything - we really had a good time this weekend.  Lisa's family was able to come from Chicago to see her and her family.  They are like a second family to me, so I was thrilled that they were able to meet Eddie!  We had lots of little kids running around and it was so much fun!  My brother's daughter Saffron finally met Reid's sister's daughter Anna!  Caiden, Lisa's son was able to meet and play with them both.

This morning I drove Lisa and Brain and Caiden to the airport.  I was really sad to see them leave.  I know the next time I will see them, they will have a new addition to their family!  I was so happy they were able to make the trip from Seattle to meet Eddie!

You can't tell in this picture, but we are all doing our best to ignore the crying baby in Daddy's arms.

Caiden loved holding Sammy's leash whenever we took breaks from driving.  He was always ask "Hold? Hold?"  It was the cutest thing!

    Busy Weekend

I feel like I should put up a new post today because I know I won't have much time over the next few days. My best friend is coming to town today with her family in tow and then tomorrow we are heading to my parents house. This weekend Eddie will be baptized and Lisa and Brian are his godparents. I am looking forward to seeing Lisa and her crew, as well as my family and Eddie is going to be meeting so many family members as well! It's going to be a crazy, but very fun few days!

Here is a picture of Eddie from the past weekend.  I bought this hat for him to wear this summer.  He doesn't love it, although he did actually wear it for a while on Monday while we were outside.
