Do I Look Smart?

I got new glasses today!  The first time in over 10 years!  I really liked my old frames, and I wear my contact daily, but I decided that it was time for some new glasses.

Rice Cereal

Last week at Eddie's 4 month check-up, the pediatrician said that we could, if we wanted to, start Eddie on food.  Of course that meals he could start with rice cereal.  Even though he is only 4 months, we decided to give it a try.  We figure that we will take things slowly.  So far he has had it about 5 times.  He's still adjusting/learning on how to eat.  Once he starts shoving the bib in his mouth after a spoonful of cereal, we usually call it quits.  I am not in a huge rush to try and get him to eat food, but at the same time, it's been fun to watch him learn and adjust to a spoon!

Eagerly awaiting his first cereal!

Visitors

Yesterday Eddie's Great Aunt Debbie and Great Grandma Nimz came all the way from Wisconsin to spend the day with Eddie.  It was Eddie's first time meeting Great-Grandma and he thought she was pretty nice.
This was Eddie's second time seeing Aunt Debbie - the first time was at his baptism.  Fortunately for her, this time Eddie wasn't screaming the whole time!

Uncas and I also enjoyed visiting with them.  It was fun to catch up with them and hear about the rest of the family.  Eddie and I are looking forward to visiting Aunt Debbie again in August!

Fun with Grandma and Grandap B

Once again - I started this post a few days ago, and have not had the time or motivation to complete.  I figured I should finally get this posted since my parents visited last weekend!  Here we go!

Last weekend my parents came to visit us.  Their primary reason for the visit was to see Eddie (well, that was my mom's reason), but we actually scheduled their visit, so they could go to a ballgame at the new Target Field.

They arrived Friday evening in time for dinner.  And Eddie took a late afternoon nap, so he was still awake.  My mom stated on the phone when they were about 10 minutes away "Don't put that baby to bed until we get there!"  She was able to start her holding and cuddling with Eddie that night!  She also generously offered to get up at night with his feedings.  At the time - he was getting up twice a night (boy did he have us trained well or what?!)  Uncas and I greatly appreciated the extra sleep. I got up on Saturday morning to find Eddie playing with Grandma and Grandpa in their bed.  Saturday we didn't do a whole lot.  We went to the Farmer's Market in the morning and my mom and I did some shopping in the early afternoon.

Sunday was the big game!  As Cubs' fans we are obligated to hate the White Sox, so we picked a day when the Twins were playing against the White Sox, so we could all cheer on the Twins.  (a little side note, my dad says that he would rather see the White Sox lose than the Cubs win!) Fortunately the game was in the afternoon.

We loaded Eddie in a Snugli Baby Carrier and away we went to Target Field!  The game was exciting.  The Twins were winning, then losing and then won it in an awesome 9th inning rally!  It started out cloudy and then got really sunny.  Fortunately our seats were shaded before too long, but I did have to take Eddie out of the sun for a bit.  I was really impressed with the ushers at Target Field.  Twice of them came over to me while I was standing with Eddie to make sure that we were ok.  Eddie slept for a good portion of the game, including the 9th inning, despite all the cheering and screaming.

After the game, I knew that we needed to change his diaper, but feared the restrooms would be so crowded.  We did the next best thing and changed him in my lap!  It worked out great!

Our weekend with my parents came to a quick end.  They took off shortly after the game concluded.  It was so much fun to have them here. Uncas and I definitely appreciated a little break from feeding and changing Eddie.

4 Months!

Eddie is 4 months old! That's a quarter of the first year already! Time is sure flying by quickly. I am way behind on posting this, although I did actually start writing it on Saturday. He had his doctor's appointment today and he topped the scale at 15 lbs. 15 oz and measuring 25 inches long. I think he is going to be a big boy! Here is a recap from the past month:

  • This month you learned how to roll over from your back to your belly. You did it for a few days and then you stopped. You have absolutely no interest in rolling over all the way anymore, although you do like to spend quite a bit of time on your sides, so it seems like you might roll over, but you don't. This weekend when Grandma and Grandpa were here, you refused to roll over, but then this afternoon you did it for Daddy twice!
  • You love your feet - especially your left foot. You like to hold it and you try to put it in your mouth - all the time! I think this could be part of the reason why you don't roll over anymore. You would rather play with your feet!
  • In the past couple of days, you have really found your voice. You love to talk and very loudly! Sometimes it sounds like you are upset, but you are just enjoying the the different noises you can now make!
  • You now like to reach out and grab your toys and put them in your mouth. Every day you are getting better and better at grabbing things
  • Your eyes are slowly starting to change color. I was really hoping for blue eyes, but I think yours will end up matching your brown-eyed Daddy.
  • Last month you stopped taking the bottle, but shortly after I posted about that, we found a nipple (made by MAM) that works and we ended up weaning you from nursing. It's been a good switch for you, as I think your tummy is less upset and you spit up far less. Plus, this gives you some good time to bond with Daddy or Grandmas and Grandpas because now they can help feed you too!
  • Sleep - we are working on this one. You still wake up once or twice a night, but after consulting with the pediatrician today, we are going to work on hopefully getting you to sleep through the night.
  • You are really a pretty happy baby. Daddy and I love to play with you and Sammy has started becoming much more jealous of you now that you are on the floor more and more. Although, you are really interested in Sammy. You love to watch him and try and reach out to him. You also kick him a lot, but that's only because Sammy is trying to sit on Mama's lap. I do think you two will become good buddies one day soon!
Here are your 4 month pictures!

    Weekend Recap

This has really been a great summer weekend!  It started on Friday with Uncas getting home about an hour early for work.  I handed Eddie over to him while I went and took a nice long nap!

Yesterday morning we got up and went out to get bagels for breakfast.  As soon as we were finished eating, we headed over to our town's Farmer's Market.  We have been going there so much this summer and we love it!  It's not very big at all, but we always manage to buy plenty of fresh fruits and veggies.  One farm even had corn already!

    Eddie and Mallory
Afterwards we headed home, so Uncas could take off and meet up with his co-workers to go Go-Karting.  Eddie and I hung out with my friend Mallory.  We went to my old neighborhood, had some ice cream and walked around the little shops.  The weather was beautiful, and it just started raining as we headed home.

After Uncas got home, we were just hanging out not doing much of anything.  We called up our friend Josh and had him come over for dinner.  We ordered pizza and ate some butterscotch pudding.  It was such a fun long day.

Today I was able to go shopping by myself for almost 4 hours.  It was heaven!  I bought books, some Twins gear (next weekend we are going to a Twins game - Woot!), went to Target and finally did some grocery shopping.  I really enjoyed taking my time and browsing at two bookstores!

Here are a couple of Eddie pictures from the week:

    Eddie's on a Roll!

Last night Eddie rolled over for the first time from his back to his belly.  Fortunately both Uncas and I were right there and were able to see it.  I was so excited!  But he didn't do it again.  This morning I was playing with him on the floor and he wanted nothing to do with it.  So I got up and was doing a couple of things and then I looked over at him.  I could see that he was getting close again and sure enough, he rolled over!  He did it a few more times and I was able to capture it on video.
The most surprising thing is that he is actually sick right now!  He has an ear infection (poor baby), but for the most part he seems to be just fine.  In fact, he really was acting normal, but I noticed at naps and bedtime that he was tugging on his ear.  Also, one of the days his one eye was watery and had some mucus.  So, off to the doctor we went.  I am hopeful that we caught this early!

While at the doctor he was weighed and measured.  His current stats are: 14 lbs 13oz and 26 inches!  His next doctor's appointment is in just over a week for his 4 month check up!  I don't think it will change too much in that time, but we'll see.

    1st Fourth of July

This past weekend was Eddie's first 4th of July.  To be honest - we didn't do any activities remotely related to the holiday :-(  Not a sparkler to be seen - and this Mama loves her sparklers!  But that's ok - he won't even remember this year, so next year I'll be sure to stock up on the sparklers and we can start celebrating a week early!

We did actually go up to Duluth to visit Grandma and Grandpa Nimz.  They were sure excited to get some quality Eddie time!  It was pretty warm up there and unfortunately there was no air conditioning, so the first night was a little rough getting Eddie to sleep. The warm conditions and bright rooms are not something he was used to.  We moved the little portable crib a few times, but once we got him down, he slept his usual amount at night, so that was good.  The next day Grandpa set about installing a ceiling fan in the "guest room", so the second night was much easier to put him down - in fact he even went to bed early!

Eddie's favorite activity of the weekend was watching Sammy and Sophie play.  We called it his very own tv.
His next favorite thing was to swing in the swing:
You can see in the picture above that he was wearing his 4th of July outfit.  It actually says - Born in 2010.

I made sure that while we were there to get some good pictures with Grandma and Grandpa.  The last time they saw him at his baptism, he was rather fussy and not really wanting to pose.  This weekend he was much better!

The best part of the weekend for me was not having to cook or clean.  My mother-in-law wouldn't let us help with the dishes even.  We definitely appreciated the break!  She even got up with Eddie to do his 4:30 feeding and let us sleep in on Monday.  It was soooo nice!  I look forward to next summer when Eddie will be able to run around their big yard and woods.

Here are a couple of cute pictures from our drive there and home.

Eddie standing on top of car during a rest stop.

Eddie taking after his daddy's love of McDonald's!

Eddie saw his friend Ashley pose for a picture that made it look like she was driving, so he wanted to as well.  We asked him if Ashley would jump off a cliff, would he?!

I took this picture of Uncas and Eddie before we left for Duluth on Saturday.  I love this outfit and they both look so cute!

And finally - one more picture - this time, no cute kid.  Every night after we put Eddie to bed, Uncas and I like to go out and check out the "farm" (our garden).  I took this picture on July 3rd.  We have been measuring the corn daily to see if it would be knee high by 4th of July.  It was just at my knees this day!
