Gone Fishing

Uncas can't get enough of ice fishing this year. His parents came into town (more on that later) and so he and his dad went fishing. On Saturday they caught at least 2 dozen fish. The first two pictures are from their time on the ice on Saturday. The third picture is from when Uncas went out today (Sunday) by himself for a couple of hours. He lost count of how many fish he caught after about 29.

It was fun to have Mr. and Mrs. Uncas in town. They were each able to do things that they love. The Mr. got to ice fish and the Mrs. got to go shopping for fibers. We made a tasty dinner of enchiladas on Saturday night and had a yummy dessert of cheesecake. We hung around the house as there was some sniffling and sneezing and coughing going on, but it was fun to see them and catch up on things.

Our household is excited for a few upcoming events. The first is the season premier of Lost. We have only been waiting since May for this! And of course, our upcoming Mexico trip - just 11 days till fun in the sun!

Uncas is a pretty sweet guy. He sent me flowers at work on Thursday for no other reason than he loves me! How sweet!

Pictures from the past couple of weeks

Here is a picture of Uncas ice fishing from a couple of weeks ago.

Here are a bunch of deer that I saw in a field this weekend. It was actually the second time I saw them, so I had to stop and take a picture. This is out of side La Crosse, WI

This is a dessert that I made last night for Mr. & Mrs. Shangri-la. We had them over for dinner. It's called French Silk and it's pictured on the outside of the Classic Stars Desserts Cookbook.

Oh Happy Day!

Yes, it is a happy night! The Packers lost - hurray!!! I am very excited that the NY Giants are going to the Super Bowl. My favorite NFL player the past couple of weeks has been Eli Manning. I hope he/the Giantst win the Super Bowl now! I can't remember the last time I was this excited about a football game!!!!

Happy Birthday Seattle Sweetheart!

Today is my bestest friend's B-day! In keeping with the nickname theme, I have now titled her "Seattle Sweetheart" because 1. She lives in Seattle and 2. She is the sweetest person I know!

Today this dear friend turns . . . well, I think she would prefer to leave that part out. It doesn't really matter. She has a rockin' "19" birthday which automatically makes her cool!

So - SS, have a fabulous day and we'll catch up on Monday night!!!

Cold

Cold - It's cold outside. It's freezing outside. In fact, it's below freezing outside! I'm cold. It sucks.

That is all I have to say about that! COLD!!!!!

Cheesecake, Laundry, Bowling, Ice Fishing, and Running

That subject line pretty much sums up our weekend. Friday night we went out to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. I had the Chocolate Oreo Mudslide Cheesecake and it was good, but I don't think I will get it again. Uncas had the Carmel Turtle Cheesecake and boy did that look good!

Saturday was pretty much laundry day until we went bowling with Matt and Janis. I brought my camera with and didn't take a single picture - oops! Matt won both games, although Uncas was neck-in-neck with him there for a while. I lost the first game (by a lot), but came back and did pretty good in the second game.

Sunday I ran 3 miles at the gym. I felt so great! Uncas decided to do some more ice fishing, but he only caught one little blue gill.

I feel like I have to mention that I did watch the Golden Globes "press conference" last night. I have to say not only was it boring, but I didn't like most of the people/movies that won. So - now I am thinking about just not even bothering with the Oscars all together. I know it's completely uncharacteristic for me to be thinking, much less writing this, but I think I am finally growing up. While I do enjoy seeing what people wear and who they are with, in the grand scheme of my life - who cares?! I mean, if I won an award at work - would these people care about me? Nope, and that's ok! Of course, it's still a couple of months until the Oscars - who knows if there is even a show. If they do another "press conference", I will definitely NOT watch, because last night was a total waste of an hour!

Award Shows

I think I am turning over a new leaf this year - and it wasn't even planned. I used to be a huge fan of award shows. I loved to see what the stars would wear, what they would say, who would win, what spontaneous events would happen . . . the list goes one. But something funny has happened - I just don't care. I have missed a couple already this year and when I heard the news about the cancellation of the Golden Globes I felt completely indifferent!

What has caused this lack of interest? I think part of it is the whole writers strike. I love my tv shows, but I have found myself watching less tv this year. I actually think it started since Uncas and I starting living together. Uncas doesn't watch that much tv and when I lived by myself, I would automatically turn on the tv when I would be at home. Now, I don't bother and find myself busying doing other things. Of course, I still watch plenty of tv, I am just saying that I have cut down. I think if the strike continues, it won't bother that much. I will be sad about a few of my favorite shows (namely LOST), but it will just give me more reason to get my butt to the gym.

So, I think the days of comments and recaps from award shows are gone. Of course, I won't say forever, because you never know . . .

One Fish, Two Fish, Eleven Fish or More!

This past Saturday Uncas and Mr. Shangri-la went ice fishing on the little lake by our house. I guess it started out a little slow going, but by the end of the afternoon, they had caught 13 fish total! They seemed to have a pretty good time, and it give me time to clean and run errands and take a nap.

That's about all of the excitement for the weekend. We like our Januarys to be more relaxing, since we typically spend a lot of time running around for the holidays. January also is the busy time for my work, so I don't feel like being on the computer very much, which is why it has taken me so long to update. And - we have less than 4 weeks till our Mexico trip! So, that means I am trying to get as many trips to the gym in as possible!

Here is one more picture from NYE. I am still trying to figure out how to work this new blog. Here Uncas, Mrs. Sally, and Marcos are lighting sparklers. Mr. Sally is taking a picture in the background. It was quite cold out that night and I was actually holding lit sparklers while taking this picture. It's a wonder I didn't burn anything!

Happy New Year!

Happy 2008! I must say that this New Years Eve was quite a blast. The past couple of years, we have spent the evening with our good friend Marcos (he was Uncas's roommate in and out of college and remains a great friend to us now). Usually we would just watch movies, hang out and eat junk food.

This year, my parents (Mr. & Mrs. Sally) decided to drive up to visit and hang out. Marcos came over and we played Michigan Rummy (some people know it as Tripoloy) all night long! We finished up around 11:45 (basically Uncas and I were the big losers!) and we then ran outside to light up some New Years Sparklers! Yes, that is right, we were crazy and froze our butts off even though we were only out there for about 5 minutes! We then came in to count-down the New Year with Carson Daly (I can't stand Ryan Seacrest)! Since I am ever the party-planner - there were plenty of hats and noise makers for all of us to enjoy. We laughed so hard for much of the night and enjoyed some yummy snacky food too!

This weekend we were able to see all of our favorite friends - Lisa and Brian from Seattle, Andy and Ella (or Mr. & Mrs. Shangri-la as they will be now known as) and Marcos. It was much fun and it reminds me of how lucky we really are to know such great people.

I hope everyone had a safe and happy new years!
